چکیده

Segmented block copolymers of polyisobutylene (PIB) and poly(butylene terephthalate) (PBT) were made by condensation polymerization of ~,og-di-anhydride telechelic PIB, with 1,4-butanediol and dimethyl terephthalate. The inherent viscosity of the polymers was between 0.35 and 2.0 dl g1. The extractability of the polymers with hexane was studied. The thermal behaviour of these polymers was studied by differential scanning calorimetry and dynamic mechanical thermal analysis. PBT-b-PIB had a glass transition temperature of -62°C and a melting temperature of 200-220°C. A shear modulus was found which, at room temperature, increased from 0.4 to 900 MPa with increasing PBT content in the block copolymer. The degradation was followed by measuring the change of inherent viscosity during thermal and hydrolytic treatment. The PBT-b-PIB showed good resistance to thermal and hydrolytic degradation.

Living cationic sequential block copolymerization: synthesis and characterization of poly(4-(2-hydroxyethyl)styrene-b-isobutylene-b-4-(2-hydroxyethyl)styrene) triblock copolymers

INTRODUCTION With the development of living cationic polymerization of isobutylene (IB)1 and styrenic monomers,2–5 the synthesis of ABA triblock copolymer thermoplastic elastomers (TPEs) with polyisobutylene (PIB) as rubbery middle segments and styrenic polymers as plastic outer segments became possible. TPEs with PIB rubbery segments inherently exhibit superior oxidative, chemical and thermal ...

A Study of the Effect of TPU and Clay Nanoparticles on the Mechanical Behavior of PBT-Based Nanocomposites

In this research, thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) and clay nanoparticles were incorporated into poly (butylene terephthalate) (PBT) to improve the impact and tensile properties. The PBT/TPU (90/10, 80/20 and 70/30) samples were prepared by melt mixing using a co-rotating twin-screw extruder followed by injection molding. At the next stage, clay nanoparticles of different weight fractions were ...

Preparation and Properties of Polycaprolactone/Poly (Butylene Terephthalate) Blend

Polycaprolactone (PCL) and poly(butylene terephthalate) (PBT) blend was prepared by melt processing. The PCL/PBT blend showed similar morphology with that of pure PCL.The crystallization temperature of PCL was increased by the incorporation of PBT. It was also observed that the peak height in the DSC thermograms decreased and then disappeared by adding 40 % or more PBT which might be due to...
